SALT LAKE CITY — The U.S. Interior Department is highlighting two projects in Utah that are key parts of a push by President Barack Obama to encourage more outdoor recreation.
Interior officials say the completion of the Jordan River Parkway and education programs at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge will be included in a report planned for release this month. Two projects in each state are included in the report and will receive additional federal funding.
The Bear River refuge, about 50 miles from Salt Lake City, hosts millions of migrating birds and is home to dozens of species.
The Jordan River Parkway is a developed trail that runs more than 60 miles between Utah Great Salt lakes. The trail has gaps totaling about three miles to complete the system.
