ST. GEORGE — User fees for Red Cliffs Recreation Area in southern Utah would climb for the first time since 1997 under a plan proposed by federal land managers.

Bureau of Land Management officials say the day-use fee would increase from $2 to $5 per carload, while the camping fee would jump from $8 to $15 per night.

They say even with the increases, fees would remain below those charged by other federal and state recreation areas with similar amenities in the region.

The recreation area, which is located within the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area in Washington County, saw 37,000 visitors in 2012.

Written public comment on the draft business plan for the recreation area will be accepted through Feb. 8 at the BLM’s St. George Field Office.
