Two public shooting ranges in Northern Utah will offer free archery and firearm shooting this weekend and next.
Free equipment and instruction will be offered for those who don’t have their own equipment, or don’t know much about shooting.
The Lee Kay Shooting Range, 6000 W. 2100 South in Salt Lake City, will offer the free activities from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Cache Valley Shooting Range, 2851 W. 200 North in Logan, will offer free shooting and archery from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 11 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 12.
With the exception of the facilities’ shotgun ranges, all ranges will be open for free on those days. The shotgun ranges will be open at a reduced price.
Equipment and instruction will be available for archery, muzzleloaders, shotguns, .22 rifles and handguns. For more information, call the Lee Kay range at 801-972-1326 or the Cache Valley range at 435-753-4600.
In addition to the free activities, the professional Cowboy Action Shooters and Practical Pistol Shooters will be at the ranges on the days the open houses are held.
Both groups are skilled shooters that shoot at targets as the shooters move through a predetermined course. The Cowboy Action Shooters shoot pistols similar to those used by cowboys of the old west. The Practical Pistol Shooters use modern pistols.
Representatives from various gun manufacturers will be on hand at both open houses. For a small fee to cover the cost of the ammunition, you can shoot some of their latest offerings.
