OGDEN NATURE CENTER

Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors / $4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. Today’s topic is “Who’s a Buteo?” Meet Sampson the Red-tail Hawk while discovering what makes a buteo a buteo. Then take a short hike with a naturalist to look for signs of buteos at the Ogden Nature Center.

Ogden East Bench Garden Tour: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. $15 members/$20 nonmembers. Held rain or shine. The gates are opening to nine exceptional gardens on Ogden’s East Bench. This year’s gardens are full of rich history and fabulous architecture. This is a rare chance to see some of Ogden’s most pristine gardens while gathering ideas for your own yards. Purchase tickets online or in person at the Ogden Nature Center, Grounds for Coffee on 30th & Harrison, or at the gardens the day of the tour. August Nature Camps: There are openings in the following camps. Full details, costs and camp descriptions are on the website.

Mudpuppies: 9-11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. Aug. 16. Ages 2-3.

Animal Superheroes: 9-11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. Aug. 18. Ages 2-3.

WEBER PATHWAYS

Kids Storytelling Walk: 10 a.m. Thursday. These outings are intended for little ones and a parent. Strollers are OK as this is a paved trail. We will go the pace the kids set. Bring a snack and a story (optional) and we will stop halfway for storytelling and a treat. Meet at the Dinosaur Park parking lot. For more information, call Anika at 801-792-3398.

Moonlight Hike: 9 p.m. Saturday. Join us on these beautiful full-moon hikes all summer long. Meet at the 29th Street Trailhead. For more information, call Anika at 801-792-3398.

Geo-Hikes: 9 a.m. Aug. 16 and 27. Geology students from Weber State University will be leading hikes and conducting geology discussions of local the terrain and surrounding Earth materials. These hikes are for everyone (kid and dog friendly) who wants to know more about our mountains.

Aug. 16: Indian Trail. Meet at the Smokey the Bear Trailhead in Ogden Canyon. Led by Kristina Bishop and Sara Yearsley. For more info, please call Sara at 801-682-5545.

Aug. 27: Beus Canyon. Led by Josh Poulsen. For more info, please call Josh at 801-231-5850.

Family Hike: 9 a.m. Aug. 18 at Wheeler Creek. These hikes are intended for families with children. We most likely will not be hiking the entire duration, but only to where the children feel comfortable. These hikes are to get parents and children outside and exploring together in our mountains. OGDEN SIERRA CLUB

Island Lake Loop hike: Saturday in the Uinta Mountains. This 8.5-mile hike climbs only 700 feet but is still strenuous due to the high elevations. Forests, lakes, and alpine meadows abound. Call Larry at 801-731-3701 for details.

WASATCH AUDUBON

Bird Walks: Today at Maples Campground, Snowbasin. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at Dylan’s (12th & Monroe) for breakfast or at 8:15 a.m. at the Smith’s parking lot (12th & Harrison) to carpool.

Annual WAS Potluck: 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St. It’s time once again for our annual potluck. The grills will be fired up and soft drinks will be provided.
