Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors/$4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Snugglers, Sleepers and Snoozers.” What do animals do when the days get shorter, the weather gets colder, and the snow begins to fly? Some very special animals snuggle in for the winter and snooze for days, weeks, and even months at a time. Come learn about these amazing animals with one of the Ogden Nature Center’s teacher/naturalists.
Soda Can Jewelry Workshop: 6-7:30 p.m. tonight. $10 members/$12 non-members. All ages welcome. Up-cycle soda cans to make beautiful jewelry. Create a pair of earrings to take home and learn the patterns for making many more on your own. All materials will be provided. This fun jewelry makes wonderful holiday gifts.
Scout Saturdays: This Saturday. 9 a.m. — Native vs. Invasive; 10 a.m. — Conservation; 11 a.m. — Venomous Reptiles. $5 per scout. The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have an ONC teacher/naturalist help your scout pass off merit badge requirements during these 45-minute classes. Bird Walks: Today at Riverdale Parkway. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at McDonald’s (900 W. Riverdale Road) for breakfast or at the trailhead parking lot (from Riverdale Road, north on 700 West for two blocks, right on 4300 South, then right on 600 West) at 9 a.m.
Christmas Bird Counts: 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ogden area. Meet at Denny’s Restaurant (21st Street to 1100 West, on north side by Flying J/Conoco Plaza) for breakfast and to get your assignment. Potluck dinner at 6 p.m. at UCC Church (3350 S. Harrison Blvd., Ogden) for compilation of data. Bring table service and a dish to share.
WAS Meeting: 7 p.m. Dec. 18 at Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St. Mark Elzey, a local teacher and member of our group is a long-time adventurer of scenic and wild western settings. He has shared many of his experiences with us in the past, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the outings vicariously. His program for December is “Ogden — Recreational Hub of the West.”
Kayak roll session: 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Weber State Swimming Pool. $8 with own equipment/$20 equipment included. Ages 16 and up. No prior experience necessary, but swimming proficiency required. Come join the experienced team from Rapid Progression Kayak School as they provide some great instruction on how to roll. ACA-certified instructors.
