OGDEN NATURE CENTER

“Picture-Perfect Winter” Photo Contest: Jan. 2-31. Entry deadline: 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2. Winners will be announced in the LS Peery Education Center at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4. Entry fee: $3 per entry for ages 8-15, $5 per entry for ages 16 to adult. Entries must be shot at the Ogden Nature Center during regular center hours. No after-hours shots will be permitted. Entrants will be divided into two age groups: Ages 16-adult and ages 8-15. Entrants can submit photos in two categories — one entry per category: The center’s resident animals, and general nature shots. Call the center for more information.

WEBER PATHWAYS

Winter Trails Day: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 7 at North Fork Park. Join Weber Pathways and Ogden Nordic for a day of play in the snow and learn about snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Come try out some gear from Weber State University’s Outdoor Program or learn how to better use your own. Expert nordic skiers and snowshoers from Ogden Nordic and Weber Pathways will be leading clinics, lessons, and tours. Come early to snag free demo equipment. Eden Coffee and Cocoa will also be there with warm drinks to help you thaw out in Ogden Nordic’s new Nordic Center Hut. The demos are FREE, but there is a $5 TRAIL FEE to help groom the trails for your enjoyment. For more information, please call Terry at 801-690-6400.

OGDEN SIERRA CLUB

Snowshoe/Ski North Fork Park: Saturday. We’ll end this year by getting outdoors in a beautiful location. Home to moose and other wildlife. We’ll stay out for about three to four hours, enjoying the numerous trails in the area. Dress for the weather, bring water. Refreshments shall be provided. WASATCH AUDUBON

Christmas Bird Counts: Today in Morgan County. Meet at Utah DWR (515 E. 5300 South, South Ogden) at 7:30 a.m. to carpool to breakfast at the Spring Chicken Inn in Morgan, or meet at the Inn at 8 a.m.

Jan. 1: Antelope Island. Meet in the parking lot outside the Antelope Island State Park entrance kiosk at 8 a.m. This is a fee area.

Bird Walk: Jan. 4 at Fort Buenaventura. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at Burger King (southeast corner of 21st and Wall) for breakfast or at the entrance to the Fort at 9 a.m.

WSU OUTDOORS

Kayak roll session: 8-10 p.m. Jan. 5 at Weber State Swimming Pool. $8 with own equipment/$20 equipment included. Ages 16 and up. No prior experience necessary, but swimming proficiency required. Come join the experienced team from Rapid Progression Kayak School as they provide some great instruction on how to roll. ACA-certified instructors. MISCELLANEOUS

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and Friends of the Bear River Refuge are hosting their 2nd Annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. The event is free and open to children ages 6-15.
