Annual Birdhouse Competition and Exhibit: The annual Birdhouse Competition encourages all ages to create unique, backyard habitats for birds. Birdhouses are due between March 26 and March 31 at the Ogden Nature Center. There is no fee to enter. Several cash prizes will be awarded for various categories. Birdhouses chosen for the exhibit will be on display April 12 through Aug. 31. Wasatch Hikers: 6:30 p.m. tonight at Skyline Trail, Pineview leg. Moderately strenuous. Hike from Pineview Reservoir to the ridge north of Ogden Canyon. Dress in layers and bring a headlight or flashlight. Crampons are recommended due to icy conditions. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome. Meet at the Skyline Pineview trailhead sign, located on the right side of the road 1.5 miles north of Pineview Dam. There is a paved parking lot that costs $5.
OGDEN SIERRA CLUB
Cross-Country Skiing: 10 a.m. Saturday at North Fork Park. Meet at the south gate of North Fork Park. Approximately five miles round trip. The park charges a $5 day-use fee for trail maintenance efforts.
Bird Walks: Today at Antelope Island Causeway and Fielding Garr Ranch. Meet at McDonald’s (Riverdale Road and 900 West) at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 9 a.m. to carpool. Alternatively, you can meet the group at the parking lot near the entrance at 9:30 a.m. Remember this is a fee area.
March 7: North Arm of Pineview Reservoir. Meet at Dylan’s (12th and Monroe) for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. or at Smith’s parking lot (12th and Harrison) to carpool at 9:30 a.m. Depending on conditions in the area, we may alter the location.
Kayak roll session: 8-10 p.m. Thursday at Weber State Swimming Pool. $8 with own equipment/$20 equipment included. Ages 16 and up. No prior experience necessary, but swimming proficiency required. Come join the experienced team from Rapid Progression Kayak School as they provide some great instruction on how to roll. ACA-certified instructors.
