Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors / $4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. Today’s topic is “Mammal Mia!” Learn about the many cool mammals that live in Utah and the Great Basin region. Touch skulls and pelts and learn what makes mammals unique. Learn why you’re a mammal. We’ll put on coats and gloves and take a short walk with a naturalist to observe live deer and possibly other mammals at the Ogden Nature Center.
Kundalini Yoga 8 Week Session: 6:30-7:45 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 23-March 12. $45 members, $50 non-members. This Kundalini yoga class is an 8-week series ideal for beginners or for those that want a gentle Kundalini practice. Please bring your own yoga mat and blanket. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Project Learning Tree Teacher Workshop: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 28. $20. Project Learning Tree’s (PLT) secondary (6-12th grade) environmental education program represents a series of learning modules that deal with current environmental topics and issues. These workshops use nationally recognized, award winning curriculum and give participants ideas and resources to integrate the environment into the classroom while meeting core curriculum requirements. Bird Walks: Today at Fernwood Trail/Kays Creek. Meet at McDonald’s (5745 S. Harrison) at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 9 a.m. to carpool. Directions: From U.S. 89 in Layton, turn East on Cherry Lane. Take Valley View Road north. Turn onto Fernwood Drive (2000 North) heading east. Turn right at first “T” intersection. Stay on Fernwood Drive to parking area.

The Annual Burbot Bash will be held Wednesday through Saturday at Flaming Gorge Reservoir with a prize purse totaling more than $7,000. This event showcases some of the best coldwater fishing in the country, while helping rid the waters of burbot, which directly compete for food and habitat with all the sport fish for which the Flaming Gorge is known. Wildlife officials from Utah and Wyoming will be tagging 250 burbot with internal digital tags purchased by the Flaming Gorge Chamber of Commerce. Anglers with tagged burbot may win up to $2,500. Join the Layton Wild Bird Center for a Bird Walk on Saturday, leaving the Wild Bird Center at 10 a.m. We will drive to Kays Creek. The walk is free, bring your binoculars. We will have a celebration of Eagle Day in Utah with a walk at Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area. You will have the opportunity to see our national symbol, the Bald Eagle, in all its glory.
