Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors/$4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Wild Autographs.” Can you walk like a bear? Are your feet larger than a skunk’s? Get the answers to these questions while learning how to identify the amazing autographs that animals leave behind.
Sunshine Breakfast Benefit: 7:45-8:45 a.m. June 21 at the nature center. Free breakfast — donations gratefully accepted. RSVP required by Friday. Come over for a sunny, summer breakfast in the backyard glen behind the visitor center. Learn more about the Ogden Nature Center and the many programs that bring our community closer to nature.
Pathways Playdate: 10 a.m.-noon June 18. Introduce kids to Weber Pathways trails by joining us on a discovery walk this summer. We will meet the third Tuesday of each month. Each adventure will be stroller friendly and will be featured on a new trail monthly. Registration is not necessary, however if you register you will receive updates about each walk via email or text. OGDEN SIERRA CLUB
Wheatgrass Canyon Hike: Saturday. We’ve seen it in the winter. Now, let’s see it in the summer. It is located in the South Fork of Weber County. It is moderate — about six miles round-trip — and about 3.5 hours. It is a narrow canyon with interesting rock formations, high canyon walls, forested slopes, and a stream. We will need to cross the stream, which may have moderate to high water, a few times. We may also spot moose, deer, elk, and eagles. Call Larry at 801-690-4335.
Bird Walks: Today at Green Pond (Snowbasin Area). Meet at Dylan’s (12th & Monroe) at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 8:30 a.m. at Smith’s parking lot (12th & Harrison) to carpool.
Thursday: Ogden River Parkway Meet at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of MTC Learning Park, located on the east side of Monroe Boulevard north of 20th Street at the bottom of the hill. Bring water. Paved pathway. We’ll see who is cruising the flowers around the Botanical Center, then head east on the Ogden River Parkway. Social gathering afterward at Slackwater Cafe. Please leave dogs and children under 12 at home.
June 19: Perry Nature Center (Brigham City). Meet at McDonald’s (1838 W. 2700 North, just east of Exit 349 on I-15) at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 8 a.m. to carpool. If time permits, we’ll also check out Mayor’s Pond and Brigham City Cemetery.
WAS Meeting: 7 p.m. June 18 at Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St. “Threatened and Endangered Species in Utah” with Lee Jacobson of the U.S. Forest Service.
Weber River Inflatable Kayak Trip: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. $25 WSU students/ $35 non-students. The Weber River has some great opportunities for novice whitewater enthusiasts. Come join us as we attempt to beat the summer heat. Participants must be 18 or older and able to swim confidently. Meet at the Outdoor Program at 11 a.m.
