OGDEN NATURE CENTER

Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors/$4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Summer Celebration.” Come celebrate the summer solstice at the Ogden Nature Center. Find out why some days are longer than others. With the help of a few live animals, discover how animals and plants, including us, adjust to the long days of summer.

Sunshine Breakfast Benefit: 7:45-8:45 a.m. Friday at the nature center. Free breakfast — Donations gratefully accepted. Come over for a sunny, summer breakfast in the backyard glen behind the visitor center. Learn more about the Ogden Nature Center and the many programs that bring our community closer to nature.

WEBER PATHWAYS

Progressive Saturday Hiking Series: 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Middle Fork Ogden River. This hike follows a river up Middle Fork canyon. There aren’t many vista views but plenty of wildflowers and opportunities for seeing wildlife. This hike is approximately 4.3 miles. Also offered at 9 a.m. June 25. Astronomy Guided Hike: 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Taylor Canyon. Look up, not down. As you gaze high up at the sky with our astronomy leader you will explore the vast expanses of our universe and learn about our sun and stars. Email outreach@weberpathways.org for more information.

WASATCH AUDUBON

Bird Walks: Today at Perry Nature Center (Brigham City). Meet at McDonald’s (1838 W. 2700 North, just east of Exit 349 on I-15) at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 8 a.m. to carpool. If time permits, we’ll also check out Mayor’s Pond and Brigham City Cemetery.

June 26: Fernwood Trail/Kay’s Creek: Meet at McDonald’s (5745 S. Harrison) at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 8 a.m. to carpool. from U.S. 89 in Layton, turn east on Cherry Lane. Take Valley View Road north. Turn onto Fernwood Drive (2000 North) heading east. Turn right at first “T” intersection. Stay on Fernwood Drive to parking area.

Field Trip: 8 a.m. Saturday. Blue Bird Nest Box Census. Meet at Smith’s (12th & Harrison) at 8 a.m. for a great opportunity to see mountain bluebird, tree swallow, or house wren babies or eggs. Bring a lunch and water. This trip is an opportunity to provide service to the chapter.

WSU OUTDOORS

Summer Rock Climbing Clinic: 5-9 p.m. Thursday at Utah Gulley in Ogden Canyon. $5 WSU students/ $10 non-students. Join the OP for an introduction into climbing knots and anchor building. We will be covering anchor building techniques and the various knots associated with climbing. This is great for any traditional climber or introduction into multi-pitch climbing. 18 and older only All basic climbing equipment will be provided.

MISCELLANEOUS

Golden Spike Gem & Mineral Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the Wattis-Dumke Room on the second floor of Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave., Ogden. Guests are always welcome.
