Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors/$4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Shorebirds 101.” Get up close and personal with Einstein, the Ogden Nature Center’s resident American White Pelican, whose beak can hold more than his belly can. Learn about the special adaptations that shorebirds have. Discuss the importance of the Great Salt Lake and learn about the different shorebirds that call Utah home.
June 5: “Endangered in Utah.” With the help of Des Ta Te, the Ogden Nature Center’s Bald Eagle, and Laser the Desert Tortoise, discover what it means to be an endangered species. Learn what causes animals and plants to become endangered and what you can do to help.
Preschool Discovery Days — Roots, Shoots, Springs and Sprouts: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Friday. $5 members/$6 non-members/$5 per child for preschool groups over five. Come celebrate all things new at the Ogden Nature Center. Progressive Saturday Hiking Series: 9-11 a.m. Saturday at 29th Street Trailhead in Ogden. We will be warming up the series by making our way to a rock outcropping overlooking Ogden. Science Hikes: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Birch Creek Trail. Our Earth is a very dynamic planet that is constantly changing over time. On this hike the geology leader will share visible evidence of how rock and dirt are able to flow, slide, slump or creep along our mountain front. New East Bench Trail Hike: 9 a.m. Sunday. Jock will lead a hike along the newly engineered East Bench Trail heading north from the mouth of Ogden Canyon. Meet at Rainbow Gardens at 9 a.m. Bring water and a snack.
Bird Walks: Today at Sherwood Hills. Meet at McDonald’s (1838 W. 2700 North, just east of Exit 349 on I-15) at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast or at 8 a.m. to carpool.
