OGDEN NATURE CENTER

Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors/$4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Whooo Eats Whom?” Learn about predator/prey relationships with the help of Pueo, the Short-eared Owl. Meet Pueo in person and get an up-close look at skulls, pelts, teeth, and more while learning about the traits that help animals survive in the wild.

Fly with the Flock 5K Fun Run/2.5K for Kids: Saturday. Whether you choose to run or walk, this fun route will be filled with surprises and topped off with a pancake breakfast at the end of the run. Participants can choose to run a full 5K, a 2.5K for kids (12 and under), and for the little ones, a free 100-foot dash. Extra breakfasts are $7 each. Cost is $27 adults/$16 kids. OGDEN SIERRA CLUB

Dyers Woad Eradication: May 19. Protect our native plants by pulling these noxious weeds in Ogden’s foothills. We’ll start at 9 a.m. and finish by noon. Call leader Dan Schroeder, 801-393-4603, for meeting location and to confirm the date, which may change depending on conditions.

WASATCH AUDUBON

Bird Walks: Today at South Ogden Nature Park. Meet at McDonald’s (5745 S. Harrison Blvd.) at 8 a.m. for breakfast or at 8:30 a.m. to carpool.

Thursday: Riverdale Parkway. Meet at 6:15 p.m. at the trailhead in Riverdale City. From Riverdale Road, drive north on 700 West for two blocks, turn right on 4300 South, then right on 600 West to the parking lot. Bring water. Paved path, mostly flat. We will walk as far along the 2.5-mile stretch from the trailhead to Fort Buenaventura as birders desire. Social gathering afterward decided upon by the group. Leave dogs and children under 12 at home.

May 15: East Mountain Wilderness Park (Kaysville). Meet at McDonald’s (5745 S Harrison Blvd.) at 8 a.m. for breakfast or at 8:30 a.m. to carpool.

Migratory Bird Day: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. This will also be the award ceremony for the 2013 Utah Junior Duck Stamp program. The art will be on display from all of the K-12 winners of the competition. There will also be open-house activities like crafts, movies and Junior Ranger activities.

Great Salt Lake Bird Festival: May 16-20. Enjoy the trips for which you preregistered. There will be no Saturday field trip due to overlap with the festival.

MISCELLANEOUS

Golden Spike Gem & Mineral Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. May 15 in the Wattis-Dumke Room on the second floor of Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave., Ogden. Guests are always welcome.
