Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Free for ONC members/$2 children/$3 seniors / $4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. Today’s topic is “Batty About Bats.” Utah has 18 species or kinds of bats. Kick off the Halloween season by learning about these mis-understood and amazing flying mammals.

Things With Wings — Preschool Discovery Days: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Thursday or Friday. $4 for Nature Center members/$5 for non-members (includes one child and one adult chaperone). Ages: 3-5. Learn about bats, birds and even seeds that fly as you explore nature’s winged wonders. Net insects, enjoy high-flying songs, stories, games and a craft as you learn through hands-on discovery about things with wings. Please call to pre-register.

Scout Saturday: 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. Each session is designed to help scouts achieve merit badges. $5 per scout per session. Pre-registration is required for all participants. If five or more scouts are not registered by 2 p.m. on the Friday before the class, registered participants will be notified of the cancellation by phone.

  • 10 a.m. — Conservation
  • 11 a.m. — Venomous reptiles


Moonlight Hike: 9 p.m. tonight. Join us on these beautiful full-moon hikes all summer long. Meet at the 29th Street Trailhead. For more information, call Anika at 801-792-3398.


Bird Walks: Today at Hyrum Lake State Park. Meet at 8 a.m. at McDonald’s (1838 W. 2700 North, Farr West) for breakfast or at 8:30 a.m. to carpool. Hyrum Lake is a fee area.

Oct. 19: Ogden Nature Center. Meet at 8 a.m. at Village Inn (322 W. 12th St.) for breakfast or at 9 a.m. at the nature center.

WAS meeting: 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St. Guest speaker Keith Evans will present “A Day Along UT-39,” highlighting habitats and birds seen on a trip beginning at the shore of Great Salt Lake and ending at Monte Cristo Campground.


Kayak roll session: 8-10 p.m. Thursday and Oct. 27 at WSU swimming pool. $20 includes rental equipment, $8 without. Ages 16 and up. No prior experience necessary, but swimming proficiency required. Registration is required at least 24-hours in advance. Please phone in or stop by to register.

18th Annual Gear Sale and Swap: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday at WSU Waterfall Plaza (north entrance of Shepherd Union Building). Private sellers welcome. Willard Bay State Park is hosting a Halloween Park throughout October with activities for the entire family, including free pumpkins for children, monster laser tag, a hay jump and hay maze, spook alley, hay rides and Halloween light display. Activities are held from 4-10 p.m. with light displays from 7-10 p.m. nightly. Admission is $6 for adults and $5 for children. Utah State Parks Annual Passes are not valid for this event.
