Wild Wednesdays: Wednesdays at 3:45 p.m. Free for ONC members/ $2 children/ $3 seniors/ $4 adults. Meet in the visitor center. All ages welcome. Today’s topic is “Close Encounters of the Natural Kind.” Have you ever wondered what the world looks like to an ant? Using a microscope you’ll get the chance to find out. With the help of an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist, you’ll have a close encounter of the natural kind.
Mad Science — Fantastic Fliers: 6 p.m. Thursday. $8 members/ $10 non-members. Ages six and up. Join the Ogden Nature Center and Mad Science for a learning adventure in flight and aerodynamics. In this one hour workshop, discover the forces that affect flight: lift, thrust, gravity, and drag. Make and test various plane designs to see these forces in action, and then see it live with one of the Ogden Nature Center’s flying friends. Please RSVP by 4 p.m. today by calling 801-621-7595.
Preschool Discovery Days — Leaves and Trees: Choose a date and time: Sept. 25 or Sept. 27, 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. $5 per child/ parent members, $6 per child/parent non-members. Race samara “helicopters,” play leaf tag and learn about the palms, teeth, veins, and needles of Earth’s tallest, oldest, and largest organisms.
Longer Distance Hiking: Come along for guided long-distance hiking to see some of the best views Weber County has to offer! These hikes will generally occur at 7:30 a.m. Friday mornings during the season and end around noon. Please check with the leader for specific times and locations. Bird Walks: Today at Willard Bay State Park. Meet at McDonald’s (1838 W. 2700 North, just east of Exit 349 on I-15) at 7:45 a.m. for breakfast or at 8:15 to carpool. Remember this is a fee area.
Sept. 26: Fort Buenaventura. Meet at 7:45 a.m. at McDonald’s (1111 Washington Blvd.) for breakfast or 8:30 a.m. at the Fort.
Field Trip: 8 a.m. Saturday. Blue Bird Nest Box Cleanout. It is important that we prepare the nest boxes for next spring. Meet at Smith’s (12th & Harrison in Ogden) at 8 a.m. Bring a lunch and water. RSVP to Les Talbot at 801-589-2591.
Antelope Island State Park will host a “Daddy Stump History Hike” at 10 a.m. Saturday. The moderate, four-mile hike will go from the Fielding Garr Ranch to the Daddy Stump home and will highlight the island’s history surrounding this site. The Salomon Trail Tour will hold events this Friday and Saturday in Salt Lake City. From 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday night, there will be a trail running clinic and presentation at the REI store in Salt Lake City. On Saturday, there will be a group trail run along the Bonneville Shoreline Trail beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Emigration Canyon Trailhead.
