DUCHESNE — The Duchesne (doo-SHAYN’) County Sheriff’s Office has called off its search for a 64-year-old Australian hiker missing in the Uinta Mountains.

Eric Robinson set out July 28 on a 10-day, 60-mile hike. He was last seen Aug. 2 on the Yellowstone Trail. His family notified sheriff’s officials when he failed to arrive as scheduled at Mirror Lake.

Searchers on foot, horseback and in helicopters and airplanes have scoured the rugged terrain in eastern Utah. Robinson’s wife also posted fliers at trailheads with hopes of turning up leads.

Sheriff’s officials say they will resume the search if they receive new information.

Robinson is described as 5 feet 8 with balding white hair and blue eyes. He was carrying a large red backpack equipped for about 14 days of hiking.
